The process of creating the images begins with the search along country highways, city streets, and vintage auto shows for interesting subjects that would work well as a finished hand-colored pieces. The subject is photographed in black-and–white negative film and also color transparency for reference.
After developing the film, the selected images are printed in the darkroom onto a Kodak matte surface fiber based black-and-white enlarging paper and archivally processed for longevity. The prints are the trimmed and dry mounted using acid free materials.
Asked why hand-color the images rather than make color prints from color film? Hand-coloring the prints allows greater creative control and flexibility, the original subjects often times look less dramatic than the hand-colored renditions.
