The original vehicle color of the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado fin when photographed was white. Pink, which is a popular color representative of the period was chosen to hand-color the vehicle, with a yellow reflection to compliment the reflected blue of the sky in the chrome.
The images are colored primarily with colored pencils because of the precision and control they allow. Oils and pastels are used for areas where a transparency and subtle transitions to white are needed, such as the clouds in Bowling Pins, Orange Fruit, and Hawaii Motel . There are pencils and oil paints manufactured specifically for use on photographs, but any art medium can be applied to prints depending the effect desired and how the print surface will except it.
